Virtual Machine Hosting

BioFrontiers hosts and manages a robust infrastructure of VMWare ESXi virtualization hosts balanced and controlled by a central vCenter server system. These machines can be requested by any group for a minimum of three months. This service is intended to provide custom web and development environments on an as needed basis to BioFrontiers personnel and labs. These machines are appropriate when a system needs to be isolated or requires custom configuration. Common examples are dedicated web servers, custom development environments, alternate OS service environments. Machines can be obtained for a small setup and maintenance fee described below and can be requested at this form. These fees offset management time and allow for machine replacement and sustainability for the BioFrontiers resource.

All machines will be hosted on redundant ESXi hosts and backed up nightly to allow for full virtual machine (VM) restore in case of machine failure. Any file level backup will require additional configuration costs that can be discussed at the time of machine creation. There are no additional fees for data upload/download to individual machines. Depending on your preferences you can be assigned administrator permissions on your VM.

Virtual machine restrictions:

Maximum of 8 GB of RAM per machine.
Maximum of 4 CPU cores at  2.3 GHz
Maximum of 100 GB of dedicated redundant disk array.(More storage is available but will be lower speed/redundancy) 
Maximum network speeds  1Gb/s shared public connection and 10Gb/s shared internal network
Any VMWare supported OS can be used but update requirements will be applied to all OSes.

Fee structure and available machine sizes:

Initial setup fee - $80-$160 per VM depending on configuration requirements

Maintenance fee Tiers:

2 GB RAM - 2 CPU - 100GB Primary HDD  --$40.00 Monthly

4 GB RAM - 2 CPU - 100GB Primary HDD --$50.00 Monthly

4 GB RAM - 4 CPU - 100GB Primary HDD --$80.00 Monthly

6 GB RAM - 4 CPU - 100GB Primary HDD --$90.00 Monthly

8 GB RAM - 4 CPU - 100GB Primary HDD --$100.00 Monthly

Additional Options:

Lower speed local storage - $25/100GB Monthly Up to 300GB

Network storage - $35/0.5 TB Monthly -  Storage will be NFS mountable inside of any customer VM as desired

File level backup configuration - Nominal fee based on storage and configuration requirements.
